Venice: Fact and Fiction

Venice on the Big Screen

It is no surprise that Venice has been the setting for many films. Try and see if you can spot locations shot in some of the following films, some might be harder than others!

Don't Look Now (1973)
Based on Daphne Du Maurier's novel, Don't Look Now reveals a sinister side of Venice. Julie Christie, Donald Sutherland and Hilary Mason star in this psychic thriller. Though the film is a little dated it can still give you the chills!

Casino Royale (2006)
Where better for the slick 007 to show off his moves than one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is just a shame James had to blow up one of the palazzos along the Grand Canal! Take the number one vaporetto along the Grand Canal and try and spot which one.

The Tourist (2006)
One Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie's latest block busters. Not rated highly by critics, but maybe worth a watch anyway for those shots of Venice.

The Merchant of Venice (2004)
Set in sixteenth-century Venice, you never know, after watching Michael Radford's adaptation of William Shakespeare's play, you may just be able to miss a couple of the Venice seminars!

Shark in Venice (2008)
Yes! I'm not kidding, apparently those canals are deeper than you would think! Though you may struggle to spot many of Venice's landmarks as the film was actually filmed in Bulgaria.
